Purus Inc. in San Jose developed wastewater treatment and air remediation equipment for removing volatile organic compounds. Their PurCycle system employed adsorption beds that contained specialized resins to filter contaminated air streams coming from a polluted source.

USER MANUAL
The Comptech Div. of Alcatel in San Jose developed the Model 610 Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) System for manufacture of thin film read heads and similar applications. The system was designed for operation in a cleanrooom environment and featured a vacuum chamber large enough to hold four substrate carriers. The 144-page manual included information about installation, operation and maintenance. It was produced from interviews with technical staff members and examination of equipment items. Illustrations were created with a drawing program and from bit-map screen captures.

OPERATOR INSTRUCTIONS
Display Integration Technologies in San Jose developed the PressView system for real-time inspection of color image registration on high-speed printing presses. The system employed a TV camera, strobe light and computer to capture printed images while the press was running. Press operators were the intended reader audience.

APPLICATION MANUAL
NetCell in San Jose developed a custom IC chip for interfacing to disk drives. The chip served as a controller for up to five drives in a RAID array. The application manual provides chip reference information for board-level system designers.

This document has over 100 pages and was originally printed as a paperbound book, (size 5 1/4 in. by 8 1/2 in.). Source data were exported from a FileMaker Pro data base into FrameMaker. The PDF version includes hyperlink areas to aid navigation: when the mouse cursor is moved over a hyperlink, its shape changes to a pointing hand and clicking the mouse causes display of the page associated with that link. Hyperlinks are found on the Table of Contents page and also on many other pages--under colored buttons, names of consulting skills, surnames of consultants, and page number references.
