After earning a B.S. in Physics from Syracuse Univ., founder Martin Van Derpool began his professional career as a test engineer for IBM (in Endicott, NY, and in San Jose, CA). During military duty Martin served as project officer at the Army Electronics Proving Ground. He broadened his engineering experience further while working as a systems design engineer for Fairchild (Palo Alto), QC engineer for Siliconix (Santa Clara), and technical writer for Lam Research Corp. (Fremont).

After more than a decade in engineering positions, in 1973 Martin founded MARTIN PUBLICATIONS CONSULTANTS to apply his technical communication skills to writing support publications for electronic equipment, systems and software products. He moved the operation to San Jose in 1984.

A strong believer in professional development and keeping up with advances in technology, Martin regularly allocates time to reading trade publications, and for attending classes and seminars.
